This interview was conducted in December at the end of last year and is available from the front page at this site. It's an audio interview. I note a lot of people at the Forum have listened to it since it was put up, and I thought there should be a topic about it in case people are wanting to discuss it directly. There's a lot to discuss; for example, Levinson asked about the value of an opening paragraph, and whether he made decisions on a story based on how it opened. Dr. Schmidt said not quite. This thought has been going the rounds but there was not much reference made back to its source. But it's proven to be an interest-provoker.

If you haven't heard the interview yet, try it out and say what you think of it here.

He comments about there having been a virus at the site back then, which they've gotten corrected.

The way those problems keep arising, it's my opinion that the science fiction sites are being attacked. Analog and Asimov's haven't been loading very well the past week.

It's a good interview. Stan is one of the most consistent people around, and if you've not had the pleasure to meet him, this interview gives an good idea of what he is like. Lots of info for unpublished writers of SF too.

The interest in it seems to have run out, though.

Actually, I just looked at my stats, and they show 99 listens for October thus far, in contrast to 67 listens for the entire month of September ...

Hey, that's great. I suspect there's a subliminal message in the podcast, whispering, "get all your friends to listen." Illegal on TV, but this is the lawless Internet!Gun

I like the way you think

My interview with Stan is now at 116 listens in October - the second most listened to podcast in the Light On Light Through series. (The first is "The Four Phils" - about the life and times of Phil D'Amato, hero of three of my novels, and three novelettes - the novelettes, of course, all published in Analog in the 1990s.)

I'm glad to hear that it pays to advertise. I'm still hoping there'll be some comments made about the interview here.

I just put in a link this Forum thread - "thoughts, questions, or comments about this interview? try here" - on the blog page for the interview.

I tried to listen to it earlier this month, ut I wanted to download it to my Sanyo player and couldn't (so I could unpack boxes and such while listening). Anyone know an easy way to do this?

From what I did have the chance to listen to it was an interesting and insightful interview with a lot of useful information.

You should be able to download the interview by clicking on the "Direct Download" link on the left side, right under The Plot to Save Socrates book cover.

Listened to it this afternoon. Trying to figure out where the recording might be buried in my files (Quicktime played it in a download so it should have had a file created).
